This is a bronze equestrian monument on a marble base dedicated to the Venezuelan general Simon Bolivar.
It was made by the Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica to a design created by the artist Adamo Tadolini.
Situated in Via Flaminia, the monument was donated to the Municipality of Rome by the Bolivarian nations and inaugurated on 21 April 1934.
It was later moved to the Fortezzuola (Canonica’s house-cum-studio) for restoration where it remained till the artist’s death.
It was erected in its current location on 19 April 1960 to mark the 150th anniversary of the independence of Venezuela, and a bronze plate celebrating Bolivar’s victories was attached to the base of the monument.
